2022 game idea from a long time ago and a galaxy far, far away....

Image
For the past few years I've been gifted the Star Wars Lego advent calendar as my birthday is in October. So... theres a few extra bits and minifigs I need to find, but these chaps and this... And surely there's a game to be had?! I thought that if I can find Luke as my rebel leader, his Force abilities could be represented by free Close Quarter attacks at a certain range rather than base to base?

Seize the railhead- Khemed Campaign

Image
After too long a break from gaming, family commitments keeping me from the CWC game in Grimsby and a lack of enthusiasm for painting, I decided that this half term would see me continue with the Khemed Invasion campaign I've been playing on and off this year.  The next game in the campaign was an encounter between mixed armour and infantry forces. I mixed up the terrain by placing a freight railhead on the table and making possession of that the objective for both sides.  Forces were as follows: USMC CO HQ FAO 30/4 3 infantry, 1 Javelin ATGW, 2 trucks 5/7 2 M1 Abrams 72 LAV-25 Recce 4/7 3 AAVP-7, 4 infantry, 1 81mm mortar Off table artillery- 3 155mm guns, 3 105mm guns Khemed CO HQ FAO ALERT 3 4 infantry, 2 trucks 9/15 2 T-55 11/15 2 infantry, 1 HMG 10/21 3 AMX-30 Off table artillery- 2 120mm mortars Each element of both forces was given a number 1-6 and would enter on the roll of a D6. If that forces number had already been rolled, a single reroll could take place. This had q...

St Germanus Pt.2

An account of the battle from the point of view of the perfidious Hessian mercenary lapdogs to the Hanoverian crown can be found at https://andysboncingblog.blogspot.com/2021/08/the-battle-of-st-germanus-of-auxerre.html?m=1

The Battle of St. Germanus of Auxerre

As any fule kno, the 31st of July is that particular saints Day, so that was the name we (myself and oppo Andy T) chose to give our inaugural battle of Maurice sort-of Succession Wars campaign between the forces of Hesse and the Catholic majesty of France. My first game in about 20 months against a human opponent! We both selected a 100 point army, using the guidelines in the book and set up the table in a mutually acceptable manner.  My army. Most of the infantry were subsequently Broken and will return as Conscript level units. The National Characteristics make things interesting. Lethal Volleys are a must have and the Oblique Order made manoeuvring my infantry a bit easier.  An overview of the table. Hesse to the left, France to the right. The herd of cows in the middle were fair game.  My front line of infantry consisted of my Grenadiers as Elite and the other Trained level units.  The artillery, with their Professi...

Don't Tread on Me, Pt.1

Image
One of the joys of the hobby is surely the side project. It doesn't matter if it's ever realised, it's the journey taken, the resources read, plans made and figures painted that count. So, one of my little side projects is to game some fictional but typical battles of the American Rebellion, ahem, War of Independence.  I've got a ruleset I enjoy, Maurice, plenty of scenery and British and French 7YW forces that could be pressed into service. So my latest order from Baccus included some Continental Infantry which I have begun to paint. I painted some of their Woodland Indians last year so there are native allies available for both sides for any side-side projects of the French & Indian Wars that I might game too. Further updates to follow..

Bigger things WIP

One of the many side projects I have is that for some of the potential Khemed battles to be fought or resolved at the squad/platoon level in 20mm. To that end,  I have started painting up some Caesar Miniatures and Orion Miniatures US and Federal Russian Infantry respectively. I have also acquired some of the Orion Minis Chechen rebels.  These and the Russians will form a core of Paladin mercenaries (sorry,  private military contractors) to go into battle against the Marines of the MEB as appropriate. Here is a few shots of the Paladin operators WIP. They will be in a mix of uniforms and civvie gear.
