1 Hour Wargames

Image
I recently bought Programmed Wargames Scenarios by Charles S Grant and wanted to give it a go. I've had the One Hour Wargames Rules by Neil Thomas for a while now and thought the two would make a good match.  I chose scenario 1, Hill Defence and busted out my 7 Years War stuff, based for Maurice. The French would be the Blue Force and programmed to defend, while Red Force would be the British. I don't have any British light infantry based as skirmishers, but I do have some Baccus Woodland Indians/Native Americans. So this would be a battle in the Americas, somewhere in Canada/13 colonies. I didn't have any Personalities to affect the forces and the victory conditions are a bit vague in the scenarios book. I decided that I would play an hour and at the end of the hour that would signal nightfall and the British would need to be in command of the hill line.  This was also a chance to try the hills set I bought from Kallistra at Partizan last week . The...

Khemed campaign, Ride of the Abrams AAR

Image
This battle that took place in Area 15 on the campaign map.. Success here would allow the Marines to strike into the rear areas on the map, needed for success in the campaign. I decided that the Americans would need to cross the board with their whole force to score a victory. The table set up had a number of compounds and trees that provided a lot of cover for an ambush force. I chose 3 random locations and then assigned the 3 on table Khemed units to them using a d6. They would start hidden until theyoved or fired.  I also used this Solo AI that I found online. Khemed forces would base their actions on this.  Below is the board. The US forces would need to travel the length of the road, heading north and exit off the board.  The D6s show where the Khemed forces would be hidden. The FAO was on the hill to the left.  US forces CO HQ FAC 2 Abrams 2 Abrams 3 infantry, 1 81mm mortar, 1 AAVP7 1 infantry, 1 truck Air support- AC130 Spooky Khemed fo...

Khemed AAR, Wild ride of the Abrams.

Full write up will come shortly. This small encounter saw a formidable force of 4 Abrams tanks plus some infantry needing to cross through an area covered in compounds and cover. Perfect ambush territory.  There were 3 Khemed units waiting, their hidden locations marked by the D6s, each unit was randomly assigned to the location. The Marines had some air support in the shape of a Spooky gunship orbiting above.

Hooke's Farm AAR

Today's game was the second battle in our Succession Wars (lite, in that we only have 2 protagonists) campaign between France and Hesse, using the Maurice rules. The set ups were traditional and orthodox in nature, line infantry in the centre, cavalry and irregular infantry on the flanks.  view from the French lines as battle is joined. The central forces carefully joined the battle with both sides looking to maximise their numbers and bring the maximum numbers of muskets to bear. On the French left flank the cavalry engagement was initially decisively won by the Hessian forces with just one French unit left on the field.  on the right flank, Hessian irregular infantry took the hill and farm and carried on some light sniping at the French which did nothing till the penultimate turn when they managed to Break a line regiment! the french artillery successfully broke a Hessian cavalry regiment and sent them packing.  The two Notables attac...

The Battle of Hooke's Farm

Image
Myself and Andy managed to get our first game of 2022 in today, crossing off one of my 'to do' tasks for the half term. The table we set up bote a striking similarity to the iconic Hooks Farm set up from Little Wars, so we thought we'd name it after that.  Battle report and pictures to follow...

2022 game idea from a long time ago and a galaxy far, far away....

For the past few years I've been gifted the Star Wars Lego advent calendar as my birthday is in October. So... theres a few extra bits and minifigs I need to find, but these chaps and this... And surely there's a game to be had?! I thought that if I can find Luke as my rebel leader, his Force abilities could be represented by free Close Quarter attacks at a certain range rather than base to base?

Seize the railhead- Khemed Campaign

Image
After too long a break from gaming, family commitments keeping me from the CWC game in Grimsby and a lack of enthusiasm for painting, I decided that this half term would see me continue with the Khemed Invasion campaign I've been playing on and off this year.  The next game in the campaign was an encounter between mixed armour and infantry forces. I mixed up the terrain by placing a freight railhead on the table and making possession of that the objective for both sides.  Forces were as follows: USMC CO HQ FAO 30/4 3 infantry, 1 Javelin ATGW, 2 trucks 5/7 2 M1 Abrams 72 LAV-25 Recce 4/7 3 AAVP-7, 4 infantry, 1 81mm mortar Off table artillery- 3 155mm guns, 3 105mm guns Khemed CO HQ FAO ALERT 3 4 infantry, 2 trucks 9/15 2 T-55 11/15 2 infantry, 1 HMG 10/21 3 AMX-30 Off table artillery- 2 120mm mortars Each element of both forces was given a number 1-6 and would enter on the roll of a D6. If that forces number had already been rolled, a single reroll could take place. This had q...
